CHEM 351L - Nucleic Acid Biochemistry LaboratoryUnits: 2 Introduces the theory and practice of nucleic acid biochemistry techniques. May include: 1) molecular cloning, manipulation, and analysis of DNA via restriction enzyme digestion, primer design, library design for protein engineering/directed evolution, PCR amplification, ligation-based and ligation-free gene assembly, transformation, plasmid mini-preps, DNA sequencing, and bioinformatics; 2) the synthesis, use, and manipulation RNA via in-vitro transcription, in-vivo induction of gene expression, and the functional characterization of RNA enzymes (i.e. ribozymes). One hour of lecture. Three hours of laboratory.
Prerequisite(s)/Corequisite(s): CHEM 341 or CHEM 351 .
