Program of Study


The minor in Communication provides students with a comprehensive knowledge of the nature of communication, its varied forms and uses, and its multiple social, cultural, and cognitive effects. Students are introduced to the significance of communication within their own lives and its relevance to the complex relationships they enter into as participants in families, communities, and organizations; as representatives of one or more cultures; and as consumers of information distributed through mediated channels.

Special Conditions for the Minor in Communication


  • All courses used for the minor must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or higher. A maximum of three (3) units of COMM 495  and/or COMM 499A -C may be applied to the Communication Minor.
  • All non-articulated course must be reviewed and approved by a faculty advisor.
  • Media Studies majors may double count COMM 100 and COMM 200 to satisfy requirements for the Communication Minor.
  • Social Sciences majors may double count up to a maximum of six (6) units of upper-division coursework toward their primary field in the Social Sciences major and the Communication Minor.
