Program of Study
The Minor in Dance Studies offers students an understanding of contemporary dance practices and performance within political, social, and cultural contexts. With a convergence of practice and theory, courses blend creative and intellectual activities. Through movement awareness and somatic research, students can become skilled collaborators, intelligent movers, and embodied thinkers, who are culturally aware and sensitive to our local and global community. Students may focus their dance research on the following areas:
Special Conditions for a Minor in Dance Studies
All courses submitted for the Minor must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or better. Twelve (12) units of study must be completed at CSUSM. Courses submitted for the Minor may also be used to satisfy General Education requirements. Visual and Performing Arts majors, Theatre Arts majors, Music majors and Art, Media and Design majors may pursue this Minor if nine (9) units are mutually exclusive, i.e., not double-counted for the Major and Minor. At least nine (9) units counted toward the Minor must be at the upper-division level. With the approval of the Program Director or advisor, DNCE 498A , DNCE 498B , DNCE 498C , and DNCE 499A , DNCE 499B , DNCE 499C may be substituted for any requirements toward the Minor with the exception of DNCE 311 and DNCE 390 .

Three (3) Units of Lower-Division Electives (3 Units)
Six (6) Units of Upper-Division Electives (6 Units)
Two (2) Studio Courses in Choreography (6 Units)
One to Four (1-4) Units of Production (1-4 Units)
