Program of Study

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a field of study in computer science concerned with building computers and machines that will learn from experience and perform human-like tasks, such as natural language processing, reasoning and problem-solving, planning and decision making, creativity and autonomy. Machine learning is a subfield of AI that empowers computers with the ability to learn without explicitly being programmed.
Students pursuing the Minor in Artificial Intelligence will learn fundamentals of computational intelligence and machine learning, exploit industrial-level frameworks and tools to design and experiment with deep artificial neural networks to tackle various challenges, and explore innovative ways of integrating AI technologies to derive powerful solutions to various domain problems, such as drug designs, healthcare, automated vehicles, business assistants. This minor is open to all majors, training students to become creative in applying AI technologies to get their jobs done faster and better.
The minor requires completion of seven courses (at least 21 units), with five core courses and two electives. Each course counted toward the minor must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or better. At least six (6) units counted toward the minor cannot be double-counted toward the student’s major.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Students completing the Artificial Intelligence Minor will be able to:

  1. Analyze the ethical concerns and social impacts of AI solutions.
  2. Design, implement, and test AI systems to meet the user requirements.
  3. Integrate emerging AI knowledge and skills to build innovative AI solutions.
