Program of Study
The interdisciplinary minor in Nutrition will provide students with an understanding of the role that food and nutrition play in health, nutrition policy, disease prevention, and the science of nutrition. Coursework includes topics in nutrition and wellness, metabolism, life-cycle nutrition, sports nutrition, cultural aspects of food, and current nutrition topics. The minor could be a relevant addition to any major, and is particularly well-suited toward students pursuing careers in public health, gerontology, psychology, human development, health science, education, medicine, nursing, and other health professions. Program Student Learning Outcomes
Students who earn a minor in Nutrition will be able to: - Demonstrate a foundation of knowledge in the interdisciplinary field of nutrition, with a specific focus on current topics in human nutrition, cultural aspects of food, nutrition across the lifecycle, nutrition policy, nutrition science, and sports nutrition.
- Implement the dissemination of nutrition information that complements training and enhances career preparation for those majoring in the basic sciences, social sciences, food science, human development, health sciences, physical education, pre-medical, and other pre-professional disciplines.
- Translate foundational nutritional knowledge into future careers and/or additional training in food and nutrition.
Special Conditions for the Minor in Nutrition
All courses used for the minor must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or better. The minor must contain at least six (6) units beyond those used for major requirements and other minors. All non-articulated courses must be reviewed and approved by a faculty advisor. Required Courses (10-11 units)
