Program of Study

The Art, Media, and Design major offers students an engaged, creative and professional approach to arts at the intersection of traditional art practices and digital media. This major has two options, Art and Visual Culture (AVC) and Digital and Media Arts (DAMA) comprising synergistic studio and theory courses in media design, film and video, drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, installation art and photography. Students combine these media fields with courses in community-based practice, cultural studies, traditional and new media art history and theory as well as service learning. The Bachelor of Arts in Art, Media, and Design provides an innovative curriculum with flexible coursework that meet students’ unique artistic and professional goals. Students work actively alongside interdisciplinary, internationally recognized, award-winning faculty and engage in projects in and outside of the classroom/studio with a strong emphasis on community-engaged art practice.

Career Opportunities

An Art, Media, and Design major provides students with the opportunity to choose a focus that best corresponds to the career path they expect to pursue, and prepares them for a variety of occupations. Professions include creative practice in graphic and media design, video and audio production, studio art, public and community art, performance art, photojournalism and photography. The degree also prepares students for careers in art criticism, curatorial work in traditional and new media art and graduate studies or professional programs.
