ETST 220 - The Cultural Politics of Hip Hop

Introduces and examines the historical and contemporary significance of hip hop culture in the U.S. and abroad. Focuses on the ways in which Black communities and other historically oppressed communities employ the many forms of hip hop culture toward community empowerment and social justice. Subjects include but are not limited to: hip hop cultural productions with respect to issues of race, gender, sexuality, class, ability, nation, and technology.
