LING 331 - Survey of Native American LanguagesUnits: 3 Includes Native American language families, the geographical locations of Tribal people at the time of European contact, and the current locations of their descendents. Introduces the basics of linguistic structure of languages representing many of these families using language phenomena such as counting systems, non-verbal and written communication systems, songs, and culture tales. Includes discussion of current social situations that have led to the endangerment of the majority of indigenous languages in the world. Enrollment Restrictions: Enrollment restricted to students with Junior or Senior standing.
