MATH 242 - Introduction to StatisticsUnits: 3 Introduces basic concepts of probability theory such as sample space, discrete, and continuous probability models, counting principles, random variables, conditional probability, discrete probability distributions, normal probability distribution, joint and marginal distributions. Subjects in statistics include types of data, measures of central tendency and variations, visualizing data, tests for normality, sampling distribution, central limit theorem, hypothesis tests for means and proportions, correlation, and regression. May include computer software such as Excel, Minitab, or courseware. Enrollment Restrictions: For students matriculating prior to Fall 2018, enrollment is restricted to students who have completed the Entry-Level Mathematics (ELM) requirement. For students matriculating in Fall 2018 or later, enrollment is restricted to students in Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning Placement Categories I and II, or who have completed MATH 105 with a grade of C (2.0) or better. Enrollment Requirement(s): MATH 105 or MATH 115 with a grade of C (2.0) or better, or an equivalent (or more advanced) course.
