ID 305 - African American Experience II — Continuity and ChangeUnits: 3 The second in a two-semester sequence of an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of African-American Studies. Material for lectures, readings, and films will be drawn from the field of political science, history, anthropology, economics, gender studies, sociology, and literature. Focuses on the freedom struggles that began with the Haitian Revolution in the late 18th Century and the subsequent struggles for the end of slavery in Brazil, Jamaica, Cuba, and the Southern United States Examination of societies after slavery with the help of theories of development, underdevelopment, and internal colonialism.
