BIOL 351 - Molecular Cell BiologyUnits: 5 An integrated view of contemporary molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology. The fundamental principles of molecular biology including DNA replication, mechanisms and regulation of transcription and translation, and nucleic acid and protein structure and function will be presented and interwoven with some of the more traditional topics in cell biology and biochemistry. Examines the molecular basis of membrane structure and transport, cytoplasmic structure, and energy metabolism, organelle structure and function, cell motility, and cell-cell interaction and signal transduction. Three hours of lecture. One hour of seminar. Three hours of laboratory.
Prerequisite(s): For BIOL majors: CHEM 150 , BIOL 210 , BIOL 211 , and BIOL 215 with grades of C (2.0) or better, or enrollment in the Biological Sciences graduate program. For BIOCHEM majors: BIOL 210 , BIOL 211 , and CHEM 275 with grades of C (2.0) or better.
