ANTH 381 - Archaeological Method, Theory, and Practice

Units: 3
Introduces students to the theoretically driven methods employed in archaeological practice today, with an emphasis on trends in the United States. Theoretical paradigms include landscape and settlement pattern studies; household and communities; archaeology of identity and personhood; materiality and memory; heritage, patrimony, and social justice; and public archaeology. Also discusses archaeological ethics and laws pertaining to archaeology in the United States and California. Methods introduced in the course include site survey, stratigraphic and artifact analyses, and GIS.
