CHEM 150 - General ChemistryUnits: 4 Introduction to the basic qualitative models and principles in chemistry. The areas covered include: basic atomic structure, the periodic table, covalent and ionic bonding, states of matter, intermolecular forces, energy, changes, chemical equilibria, acid-base and redox chemistry, stoichiometry, properties of gases, and chemical properties of the common elements. Intended for science majors. Enrollment Restrictions: Enrollment restricted to students with declared majors in: Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Kinesiology, Liberal Studies, Mathematics, and Physics. Three hours of lecture and one hour of discussion per week.
Prerequisite(s): A score of above 50% on the Chemistry Placement Exam (CPE), or either CHEM 101 or CHEM 105 with a minimum grade of C (2.0). Enrollment is restricted to students in Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning Placement Categories I and II, or who have completed MATH 101 or MATH 105 with a grade of C (2.0) or better. Prerequisite(s)/Corequisite(s): CHEM 150L . Satisfies GE area: B1
