LTWR 351  - Imagining Health and Illness in Film, Literature, and Comics

Introduces critical and analytical thinking about how the meanings of bodies, minds, and body-mind diversity are constructed by film and other screen media; literature; and comics. Applies basic tools of literary and visual analysis such as close reading and close looking. Explores key concepts from disability studies, fat studies, age studies, medical/health humanities, and other body-mind scholarship and activism. Focuses on intersectionality of health and illness identities as they are co-constructed with other embodied social identities.
