SOC 316 - Mental Health and SocietyUnits: 4 Focuses on a sociological understanding of the definition, recognition, treatment, and causes of mental illness. Particular emphasis on the social factors associated with mental health and illness, especially those related to social class, race and ethnicity, and gender. Examines the processes through which the family, community, and mental health care institutions respond to problems in living and the historical interpersonal processes that shape these responses.
