SLP 463  - Low-Incidence Communication Disorders

Units: 3
Focuses on low-incidence communication disorders and augmentative and alternative methods of communication. Presents theories and principles in the onset, development, and maintenance of fluency in children and adults. Covers etiological and structural factors associated with cleft lip and palate and resulting difficulties in areas related to communication, such as speech, language, and hearing. Explores approaches to support individuals with complex communication needs, including assistive technology. Reviews current best practices in prevention, assessment, and treatment for populations across the lifespan.
Prerequisite(s): SLP 320 , SLP 372 , and SLP 461 ; all courses completed with a C (2.0) or better.
