LING 355 - Heritage Languages and Heritage SpeakersUnits: 3 Introduces the linguistic and cultural properties of heritage languages, which are acquired in the home and later supplanted by the dominant language of the community. Investigates phonological, morphological, and syntactic properties of heritage languages, the relationship between language and identity, the role of motivation in language re-learning, of bilingualism on cognition, and the role of family, community and public policy on language maintenance. Enrollment Restrictions: Enrollment is restricted to students with upper-division standing.
