BIOL 386B - Terrestrial Ecology Lecture and LabUnits: 5 Surveys terrestrial ecosystems and the biotic (living) and abiotic (non-living) factors that affect ecosystem structure and function. Emphasizes the important mass (C, H2O, nutrient) and energy (production and consumption) fluxes that flow into, out of, and through terrestrial ecosystems, and the plant-animal interactions that regulate the rates and magnitudes of these mass and energy flows. The laboratory component provides students with an introduction to laboratory and research techniques for quantifying the interactions between carbon, water and nutrient cycles of terrestrial ecosystems. Conducts observational and sampling studies of local ecosystems and manipulative experiments in the field, laboratory, and/or greenhouse. Three hours of lecture. Four hours of laboratory. May not be taken for credit by students who received credit for: BIOL 386.

For Environmental Biology Minors: BIOL 211 .
For Biological Sciences Majors: BIOL 210 and BIOL 211
