HIST 384 - Women and Gender in the Middle EastUnits: 3 Examines the history of women and gender in the region from the rise of Islam to the present. Emphasizes historiographical approaches; the roles of women in early Islamic societies and later empires; issues concerning class, ethnicity, and religion; work, marriage, and family; colonialism, nationalism, and modernity; and women’s participation in twentieth-century social and political movements. May not be taken for credit by students who have received credit for HIST 300 F. Meets major requirements in women’s history.
