GES 102 - Matter, Molecules, Life, and the Environment II [Life Science]

The second of a two-semester course consisting of integrated modules covering the areas of matter/energy, molecules, living systems, and environment. These modules will cover major concepts in the physical and biological sciences, emphasizing their application to real-world problems. Concepts covered will include the interactions of matter and energy, laws of motion, atomic structure of matter, structure and properties of molecules, principles of genetics, structure and function of living organisms, evolution, and interactions of organisms with each other and their environment. Includes practical experience in the application of the scientific method through laboratory activities. Enrollment Restrictions: For students matriculating prior to Fall 2018, enrollment is restricted to students who have completed the Entry-Level Mathematics (ELM) requirement. For students matriculating in Fall 2018 or later, enrollment is restricted to students in Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning Placement Categories I and II, or who have completed MATH 101 or MATH 105 with a grade of C (2.0) or better. Four hours per week of lecture/discussion/laboratory. A field trip outside of regular course hours may be required.
