The Life and Times of Niccolo Machiavelli

Niccolo Machiavelli viewed humanity with the pragmatism of a statesman, the passion of a philosopher and the detachment of a bystander. Divorcing politics from morality, his memorable treatise, The Prince, presented a sinister view of humanity and the human condition. Although lionized by a few, Machiavelli’s political principles have been greatly scorned. This lecture will examine Machiavelli’s ideas and explain why and how the man and his views were the product of the turbulent times in which he lived.
